Now you may be sitting there reading this and think "what in the hell is a chakra"? Well read on my friend and I shall tell you.
We have seven chakras that are located at different locations on our bodies. Each chakra is associated with a color as well as a form of expression or connection. If a chakra is blocked the corresponding expression or connection will therefore be blocked as well. A blocked chakra prevents us from operating at our highest possible frequency which in turn prevents us from living an abundant lifestyle. In two words a blocked chakra is "no Bueno." A quick tip before we dive into the seven chakras...since all chakras are associated with a color then eating food of that color will help unblock the corresponding chakra.
The first chakra starting from the base of the spine all the way up to the head is the root chakra. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine. The root chakra is our connection to feeling safe + secure. The root chakra, if blocked, blocks all other chakras since it is our basic connection to feeling protected with no fear of harm (physical + emotional). If you are constantly living in fear then you will sap the natural energy/resources from your six other chakras to give you this sense of safety + security. Your root chakra is blocked if you are someone who struggles with staying grounded (not stuck in your head), feeling secure (physically, emotionally, financially) and feeling protected (physical/emotional harm). In order to unblock your root chakra I would recommend eating beets, apples, red peppers, tomatoes and root vegetables to name a few. Once you unblock your root chakra you will have a much easier time tapping into the energy + resources of your other six chakras which in turns create an abundant lifestyle.
The second chakra moving up from the base of the spine is the sacral chakra. The sacral chakra is located around your belly button. The sacral chakra is our expression of self via creativity and sexuality. Your sacral chakra is blocked if you struggle with expressing yourself creatively (written, drawn, sown, etc.) or embracing your sexual nature (physical/emotional). To unblock your sacral chakra I would recommend eating oranges, orange peppers, mangos, peaches and butternut squash. Once you unblock the sacral chakra you will be able to express yourself in a far more creative manner while embracing your sexual nature both the physical + emotional.
The third chakra moving up is the solar plexus chakra. The solar plexus sits above the belly button on the top of the abdomen. The solar plexus chakra is our connection to our self-esteem (inner strengths) and inner wisdom/knowingness. The solar plexus is blocked if you struggle with your own self image, trusting in your strengths and trusting in your inner wisdom. To unblock your solar plexus I would recommend eating bananas, yellow peppers, pineapple, lemon (add to water) and spaghetti squash. Once you unblock your solar plexus you will be able to connect/create a strong sense of self (self-esteem) and trust in your own wisdom/knowingness which is the source of your own personal power.
The fourth chakra moving up is the heart chakra. The heart chakra is located just where one would think...your heart. The heart chakra is our connection to self love and our love for others (romantic + non romantic). Your heart chakra is blocked if you are someone who struggles with loving yourself because all other love shall struggle if you do not love yourself. This is a topic I feel very strongly on but for the sake of this article I shall save those thoughts for another day. If self love and therefore love in general are something you struggle with then I recommend eating cacao (woot woot chocolate fo da win! Make sure it's high in cacao chocolate. "Aka dark chocolate.") green peppers, spinach or any leafy greens, cucumber, avocado and kiwi. Hm I'm starting to notice a theme for unblocking these chakras...*cough* fruits/veggies + whole foods *cough* Once you unblock your heart chakra you will be able to love yourself fully and in turn by loving yourself fully you will be able to share that love with the world.
The fifth chakra moving down is the throat chakra. The throat chakra is located at the base of our throat. The throat chakra is our expression of self via communication with others. Your throat chakra is most likely blocked if you are someone who struggles to speak authentically, share your thoughts, verbalize your true feelings or all together struggles to communicate effectively. Now if any or all of these forms of communication sound like you then foods I would recommend eating/drinking are blueberries/blackberries (bonus points for unblocking two chakras), figs, herbal teas, raw honey and coconut water. All of these foods are full of antioxidants and micronutrients but they will also allow you to express your true self through effective + confident communication.
THIRD EYE CHAKRA-INDIGO
The sixth chakra moving down is the third eye chakra. The third eye chakra sits between our eyebrows and is typically the most well known chakra. The third eye is our connection to our own intuition about people, places, opportunities, etc and awareness of more than meets the eye. Intuition is commonly referred to as "your gut instinct." If you are someone who struggles to trust in their own intuition or feels as though it is non existent when it comes to making decisions then I would say your third eye is blocked. The foods you would want to eat would be blueberries, acai, blackberries, dragonfruit, coconut and purple grapes/raisins to name a few. Now all of these foods are not only good for you, chock full of antioxidants/micronutrients, but they will also unblock your third eye chakra which strengthens your intuition and increases your awareness with the world around you both seen and more importantly unseen.
The final chakra starting from the base of the spine up to the head is the CROWN chakra. The crown chakra sits on top of our own heads where one would where a crown. The crown chakra is our connection to spirituality meaning our connection to our own soul as well as the souls around us, both living and deceased. Now if you're someone who struggles with the understanding that you are a spiritual being having a human experience and not vice versa then your crown chakra is certainly blocked. The best way to unblock the crown chakra and connect with your soul on a deeper level would be to fast. Not eating is actually what will unblock your crown chakra allowing you to soar beyond the confines of humanity into the limitlessness of your own soul. Once you connect with your true self you will forever look at the souls and world around you with far more appreciation.
There are multiple techniques to unblock the seven chakras but food is a very easy and effective way to start unblocking your chakras today. It will also give you a deeper appreciation of what the food you are eating is actually capable of doing for overall health. Remember the colors of the chakras by thinking of ROYGBIV (ze rainbow colors) and if your diet consists of the colors of the rainbow then you and your life shall be just as beautiful. Stay colorful my friends. :)
